Kitchen & Dining Hall Expansion for

The Salvation Army of Davidson County

In early 2021, there was a community announcement regarding the relocation of the current homeless shelter to the property adjacent to The Salvation Army (located on 9th Avenue in Lexington). Crisis Ministry, now known as DC First Hope Ministries, purchased the property in 2021 in preparation to build the new shelter. The Salvation Army has also announced the expansion of our current kitchen and dining hall to accommodate the Feeding Program for the new shelter and its clients. In addition, this new space will serve as a Community Center and allow us to collaborate with community partners such as Davidson-Davie Community College and Davidson County Local Food Network along others to provide additional resources and assistance to those seeking help. Lastly, a portion of the expansion will include a renovation of the Social Service Department to offer a more accommodating lobby area for clients seeking services.

To accommodate the increase of our Feeding Program from currently 80 meals a day to over 250 meals a day, seven days a week, we will be adding an additional 1,800 square feet to our current building.

Our expected timeline and hope is to secure funds by the 4th Quarter of 2023 and begin construction 1st Quarter of 2024.

To date we have received 42% of our goal from supporting community members and Salvation Army Board of Directors. We currently have 2 matching donations up to $200,000 each from NC State Senate Discretionary funds which were acquired for us by Senator Steve Jarvis and a private family foundation. With this match, that puts us a little over 84% to our goal.
